Sean Bergin

Sean Bergin was a great friend to Reine and myself, and he did a lot to get Reine to pick up the sax again after a long idle period. He died in 2012 at age 65. In his last years Reine and I sent him birthday cards; sometimes I drew them alone, and sometimes we collaborated.

We would call him the 'Space Cowboy', and he always said we looked as happy as 'Pigs in Shit'.

He was always intellectualy curious, and interested in far more than jazz music. After sessions we would discuss almost anything together, from Gilbert & Sullivan to the novels of J. B. Priestly, to which he introduced me. Though he was often difficult, he was the only person I have ever met that was 'larger than life', and Reine and I still miss him.
